Fathers Day letter

Dear Mrs Baker

Through rough and tough times, in and out of our family my father has been there to help and support us through life. He helped us and others whenever we needed him even though he was sick and not feeling well. My father cares for his family and for others.

My father is a caring, loving, generous and helpful man. He works hard so we his children can have a good life and a good future. My father is a hard worker he works at DCS in Panmure he starts at 8.30am and finishes at 5.00pm.  When my dad finishes he always comes home with a smile on his face he is never wearing a frown when he comes home.

Our whole family love going to church. We go to the Panmure Methodist Church. My father is a Minister’s assistant. He loves talking about God. He also loves preaching about God and he also loves teaching others about God. When we were at Samoa he used to teach a secondary school at our village. He would always teach years 10 and 11. He loves teaching Maths and Science.Even though he doesn’t teach anymore he still teaches us at home.

I want to win this for him because he gets us anything thing we want and I want to give it to him for Father’s day in return for all the hard work he has done in our family.
Please choose my father because he would really love it and he would appreciate it.
Yours Sincerely: Vaolele

Matariki

Our nervousness took over when we got into school on Thursday because it was Matariki the Maori New Year.

Matariki is about the seven stars or as the call it the seven sisters. Its a new year every year for the Maoris that means a start of a brand new life and a brand new future. Each year there is always Matariki because its a Maori tradition.

Now back to my story we were all nervous because we had to perform in front of the whole school. We settled and we calmed down and then we practiced, Maria and I had to stand in the front in the middle right in the middle because we were leading the song and our song was Ka Pioioi e and it's a beautiful song.

When we finished practicing we had to go outside and go back in but in our lines and I had to go first. When we were lined up Irasa who was playing the guitar started playing, Maria and I had to listen to when we had go in and we went in by the third beat so we did and when we all sang together it sounded so wonderful.

After we had finished practicing our class went down to the hall at 11:30 and saw room 8 practicing so we stayed outside for a little while then when they have finished practicing  we had to stay in our lines so when we go up on the stage we are in our same places.

After a little while Rm7 came in with Mrs Bailey and with Mr Horan. Mrs Bailey went up the stage then started talking to us and afterwards she told us to stand and do the karakia after the karakia she told us to sit and be quiet.

When Mrs Bailey finished talking Michael and Joseph from rm8 did a presentation on what Matariki is all about. After when they have finished Molly and her group went up on stage and sang Halo but in Maori about Matariki.

Afterwards it was our turn so we went up the stage and we did as we practiced and we sang our song it was beautiful and loud.

Next was rm7 they sang two songs they were both touching and sweet these were the songs that the Maori prince sang to his wife.

After all the performances the people that were doing the poi, stick game and the brain drain had to go and do their challenge. Sariah did the poi challenge but we lost and the embarrassing thing was that I actually cried because we lost. Next was the harakeke headband Maria did it and we came first tie with rm 7 and this time I didn't cry.

When that challenge was finished The designing was up and Tamika did it from our class they had to design the bottle with markers and unfortunately we lost because Mrs Tafea was cheating but it didn't matter.

After all those screaming we all came together and did our last karakia and then the judges did the points rm7 came first then our class then rm 8.

I wish we could do Matariki again.

My moment of Excellence

Last year was fun but during the year we had to study for Sunday School exams which is every year and it's always on a Saturday in May. It's all about learning about how Jesus died and  when he came back to life on the third day and it's also about how Moses was born .
Last year I was in class five. My class only had two people in it, myself and this other boy named Sefo. We learnt about lots of things in the Bible. We also had a teacher and her name is Fetuao. She was a good teacher. She explained everything about each story because there are seven stories in each testament. The old one and the new one.

Our first stories were in the Old Testament , it was about Moses and his family and how he was brought up and how he became one of God's followers and how he saved Israel from Egypt and their King.

Our second stories were in the New Testament about how Jesus died and how he came back alive. Our other stories were all about different things but I can't remember them but they we're all about good things.

Our exams were on the 26th of May 2011 it started at 8.00am and it went on for 1 hour.It was pretty hard but it was good. The exam was over and we were all waiting for the scores. When the scores came everyone wanted to see who came first and who came second.
After looking at the paper everyone looked at me in a shocked way. I looked at the paper and there was my name in the second column. I came second in all of New Zealand and it was so surprisingly awesome. The inside of my stomach felt like it was doing flips of happiness. My mum and my dad came and hugged me and they were very proud of me. That was the most exciting thing that ever happened to me in my whole life. That was my first taste of achieving excellence.

My favourite subject

My favourite subject at school is Art because I get to do new things I haven’t experienced before. We make masks and we draw a landscape of the city and it is so cool because sometimes we can do anything because our art teacher doesn’t really care as long as we do our work. I really enjoy doing art, it is a good experience to me. Some schools do art in class but we do art in technology. That is why I like art
